The Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Corps , NSCDC, has arrested two syndicates allegedly involved in criminal conspiracy, cheating, obtaining by trick and production as well as distribution of counterfeit US Dollars (USD) and new Naira notes.
In a statement, the Director, Public Relation of the Corps , Olusola Odumosu, says the arrest was based on credible Intelligence, by the Corps’ Special Intelligence Squad in a clandestine operations.
According to the statement, one of the syndicates consisting of four male adults, was caught in possession of fake $64,800 and N475,000 notes, while fake notes of N1.5m was also seized from the second group consisting of five male adults.
The statement states that the arrest was carried out when one Dantala Omale was lured to Nasarawa from Plateau state and picked up by the squad with fake new naira notes of N412,000.
The suspect confessed to the crime of getting the fake notes from Musa Abdullahi, popularly known as Baballe which led to the arrest of Abdullahi at Namu area of Quanpan LGA in Plateau state in possession of N49,650 old naira notes.
After a thorough interrogation, Abdullahi confessed that he usually gets his supply of fake currencies from one Audu Abdulazeez, popularly known as Dan-Gombe, who was also arrested at Plateau Express service motor park in Jos, with N350,000 fake newly redesigned Naira notes.
