In solidarity with Ukraine on its ongoing war with Russia, a man is set to walk the famous London Marathon backwards.
It is a means of “looking over my shoulder for Ukraine”, he said.
Tom Harrison, who lives in Amersham, Buckinghamshire told the press that there are several reasons behind his idea to walk the London Marathon – which takes place on April 23 – backwards.
This is not the first time the 46-year-old is taking on a unique feat.
The Independent reports that he walked 263 miles in 15 days from Land’s End in Cornwall to Parliament Square in London in September 2022.
Harrison also crawled the 26.2 mile marathon route in a gorilla outfit in 2017 as his alter-ego “Mr. Gorilla”.
He believes that his “quirky” and “eye-catching” idea would boost the needed awareness to encourage donations to the Red Cross to support Ukrainians caught up in the war.
His £2,000 fundraising target – which needed to be reached by those fundraising for the Red Cross so their place for the marathon could be secured – has been surpassed, but Mr. Harrison hopes that even more donations will be made.
