The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has commenced sensitization of stakeholders on how to curb the spread of zoonotic diseases during floor disasters.
At the event in Abuja on Thursday, the Director, Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, Dr. Musa Mohammed Inuwa explained that 75% of emerging and reemerging diseases are zoonotic and the recent flood incidences have created an enabling environment for these diseases to spread to humans.
Dr. Inuwa who said the workshop was to provide a platform for effective engagement and information sharing, urged participants to contribute to proffering solutions to the menace.
Representatives of the federal ministries of health and environment as well as Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, pledged commitment to the success of the sensitization.
