Borno Govt sympathises with victims of Gamboru market fire

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum has promised to assist victims of Gamboru market fire.

Governor Zulum made the promise when he paid a sympathy visit to the traders at the market in Maiduguri.

Gamboru market, which is the largest grain and vegetable market in Maiduguri Metropolis, was gutted by fire on Saturday afternoon when Governorship and state assembly elections were about coming to an end.

The Governor assured the traders that parts of the market would be rebuilt.

“We witnessed another fire incident here in Gamboru market,” Governor Zulum said.

“I want to commiserate with the traders who lost their property and want to assure them that Government will come to their aid,” he pledged.

He also expanded the Monday Market Committee to assess the situation at Gamboru market, with a view to cushion the hardship on the traders.

The Governor commended security, emergency and humanitarian agencies for their swift response in bringing the fire under control.

A similar fire outbreak was reported at the timber market in Biu town, Southern Borno, which destroyed parts of the market.
