CAF hails Rivers United after last 8 qualification

Africa’s football governing body (CAF) has congratulated Rivers United after making it to the last eight in the CAF Confed cup with a game to spare.

Rivers United held Diables Noirs of Congo Brazzaville to a 2 all draw at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo on Sunday in a match day five fixture.

A first half own goal by Rivers United Ghanaian left-back, Emmanuel Ampiah gave Diables Noirs a shock 1-0 lead.

But two quick goals from Nyima Nwagua in the 73rd and 77th minutes turned the game around for the Port Harcourt side.

With eight minutes left in regulation time, Diables Noirs equalised as Stanley Egumas’ side held on to go through.

Commenting after the game, CAF wrote on their Twitter handle: Rivers United Confederation Cup quarter-finals!

The pride of Rivers will now will face Motema Pembe of DR Congo in their final Group B game on April 1st.
