One dead, 7 injured in Balogun market fire

A body has been recovered in the fire that gutted two plazas at the Balogun Market, Lagos Island, on Tuesday, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Lagos territorial coordinator, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the figures, said seven people were injured.

He also said the police arrested four persons who were allegedly looting wares during the blaze.

In the morning hours of Tuesday, another fire engulfed a five-storey building in the popular Balogun market.

Daily Trust reported that the fire affected a plaza in the market where Ladies’ shoes are sold.

Firefighters from two divisions of Lagos Fire Service were deployed to the scene to put out the blaze.

There have been several cases of fire outbreaks in the market, with goods worth billions of naira lost in the process.
