The Ondo State Government has unveiled an ”education endowment fund” aimed at raising fund towards repositioning the standard of education in the state.
To this end, all taxable residents of the state are expected to voluntarily contribute N1,000 annually for the purpose of funding the education sector.
While addressing Newsmen in Akure, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Femi Agagu said the state government had set up a board comprising prominent natives of the state to judiciously administer and regulate the fund for the development of education at all levels.
According to Mr. Agagu, the number of schools the state government is funding is large, hence call for assistance from the residents.
Mr Agagu who pointed that the government was targeting over N1billion annually explained that the fund, when realised, would be expended on provisions of facilities and renovation of dilapidated school structures, as well as bursaries and scholarships among others for students.
