Tiger Woods’ 1997 Masters ball sold for over $64,000

Tiger Woods winning his first Masters championship.

A golf ball Tiger Woods gave a 9-year-old boy during the 1997 Masters has been sold for more than $64,000.

Woods handed the ball to Julian Nexsen during his final round, after he made a bogey on the fifth hole.

The ball was put up for auction on 27 March 2023 after a starting bid of $500, but eventually fetched $64,124.40 when the auction closed on Sunday.

The tournament was the golf greats first major championship victory and made him the youngest player to win the Masters.

The victory did set the tone for Woods’ record-breaking career with his four-day score of 270, 18 under par breaking the previous record held by 18 major champion Jack Nicklaus.

The auctioning company Golden Age Auctions said it is likely the ball is the only one known from the final round.
