Women account for 55% votes in elections-Onuoha

The Emergence of dwindling number of women in parliament has been described as a call for deliberate
action.

A contestant for the seat of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Miriam Onuoha, made the remark while formally declaring her intention to contest for the seat in Abuja.

According to her, over fifty-five percent of valid votes casts during elections were women.

The lawmaker said this will bridge the gender gap as well as makes the leadership of the National Assembly to embrace the stance for women of competence and experience.

Mrs Onuoha urged her fellow contestants to support her to enable Nigerians benefit from gender balancing and youth inclusiveness in political and leadership positions.

She promised to bring fresh ideas and promote bills that supports massive industrialization of the economy to create more jobs.
