Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of Zimbabwe, has accepted an invitation to the coronation of King Charles III, which will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.
On Tuesday in the nation’s capital, Harare, the president and the UK ambassador met to talk about the upcoming coronation.
In the meeting, they also discussed trade, investment projects, and the importance of peaceful, free, and fair elections later this year, according to a tweet from Ambassador Melanie Robinson.
The UK’s relationship with Zimbabwe soured following land reforms implemented during the tenure of former long-time ruler Robert Mugabe.
After Mr. Mugabe was ousted in 2017 and died over two years later, his successor, President Mnangagwa, has worked to mend fences with the nation’s detractors.
A delegation from the Commonwealth visited the nation last year to discuss the possibility of readmission.
