A goal in either half by Ugoh Ujah proved priceless as bottom club, El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri claimed an unlikely road win by inflicting a 2-1 defeat to Nasarawa United, at their adopted home in Kaduna, in the only Day-12 fixture of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League.
The relegation dog-fight, which pitted the last two sides on the log against each other, came to life in the 27th minute, when Ujah scored to give the Warriors the lead.
But Isaac Ogiri converted a penalty from 12 yards to restore parity for the Solid Miners whose struggles under Coach Bala Nkiyu have been persistent, from Day-1.
Just when both teams were about settling for a share of the spoils, Ujah had other ideas, and came up with a goal in the 89th minute that stunned both players and fans of Nasarawa United, throwing the bench of the visitors into wild jubilation.
Despite the win, El-kanemi Warriors remain rooted at the foot of the Group A log with 8 points, same as Nasarawa United who are on 8 points, but remain in 9th, with a better goals difference.
