Troops arrest bandits arms supplier in Kaduna

Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have arrested a suspect who specializes in the supply of arms and ammunition to bandits in Kaduna State.

Aminu Abdullahi, the suspect, was detained for delivering a sizable amount of ammunition to bandits in the Birnin Gwari local government area in Kaduna State’s Polewire area.

Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said in a statement that the troops stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle in the area of interest after acting on reliable information about gunrunning activities in the area.

The troops discovered more than 2,000 rounds of concealed ammunition of various calibers when searching the black Toyota Corolla they had intercepted.

A total of 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition, 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition, five empty AK-47 magazines, and more were found during a thorough search of the car, according to Mr. Aruwan.

The suspect is in jail, according to the commissioner, pending additional investigation.
