A 21-year-old US airman is to appear in court on Friday in connection with the leak of highly classified military documents about the Ukraine war and other national security issues.
The FBI arrested Jack Teixeira at his family home in Dighton, rural Massachusetts, on Thursday.
Mr. Teixeira has been identified as the leader of an online chat group where the documents first emerged.
He was an IT specialist in the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts National Guard, based at Otis Air National Guard Base in western Cape Cod.
He is being charged with the unauthorized removal and transmission of Information.
The leaked documents contained US assessments of the war in Ukraine and sensitive secrets about American allies.
Reports say the leaked documents were kept inside the small chatroom, but was later seen in platforms such as Minecraft, YouTube, telegram and 4chan in early March.
