The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday as the day for the celebration of Eid-el Fitr and the first day of Shawwal in Nigeria.
He gave the confirmation in a broadcast at his palace in Sokoto on Thursday evening.
”Today the 29th Day of Ramadan 1444 after Hijra , equivalent to twentieth of April 2023, marks the end of Ramadan 1444 AH”, he said.
The Sultan said reports of moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and other organizations across the country, which were duly verified and authenticated by the states and National Moon Sighting Committee.
