38 days to go, Buhari apologises to Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians that might have been hurt in the course of his stewardship to forgive him just as he has forgiven those that have wronged him.

The President sought for the pardon during the 9th and final Sallah homage held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“God has given me an incredible opportunity to serve the country, and I thank God for that, so please, whoever feels that we have offended them, we are lla human, there’s no doubt that I have hurt some people, and I hope they’ll pardon me. Please pardon me”, the President pleaded.

President Buhari, who described himself as being lucky to have served Nigeria as Governor, Minister, Head of State, and President, thanked residents of Abuja for tolerating him in the last seven and half years.

“I deliberately arranged to be as far away from you as possible, not because I don’t appreciate the love you’ve showed me, but because I’ve got what I asked for, and I’ll rather quietly retire to my hometown”, he stressed.

He could not wait to go home after eight years of leading the country, the President said.

Responding to questions from State House correspondents, Senate President, Ahmad Lawal said the administration deserved commendation for resolving a great percentage of the problems it inherited.

He noted that the Buhari administration was closing on a very strong note, stressing that it has succeeded in minimising the problem insecurity it met in 2015.

Senator Lawan said the administration had provided so many infrastructures across the country, noting that President Buhari has assented to legislations more than any previous President had done, especially in the last four years.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammad Bello, told the President that the homage was to give residents of the territory the opportunity to express their feelings of love and admiration for him.

“Considering that this is the last opportunity that most of the people in this hall will be able to meet you at close quarters, taking into account that by the Grace of God Almighty, within the next 6 weeks, you are going to conclude a very successful and highly productive two tenures as the President of the country,” the Minister pointed out.

He thanked the President for appointing him as Minister, a position he said he would cherish till the end of his life.
