Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance returned to winning ways by edging bottom club, El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2-1 in a frenetic, Day 15 encounter of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City.
First half of the fixture which pitted the two sides, at the opposing ends of the log ended goalless, and there were worrying signs for the log leaders; who had dropped points, in their last four games against Remo Stars, Kwara United, Plateau United and Akwa United.
Conversely, holding Insurance goalless at the break, gave the Maiduguri Warriors some belief; which was doused as early as the 54th minute when Ishmael Sariki put the hosts in front, before Austin Agunye doubled the lead 4 minutes later.
El-kanemi Warriors refused to roll over and continued to attack occasionally on the break, and were rewarded with a penalty converted in the 69th minute by Hussaini Mohammed to halve the deficit.
The defeat foisted on El-kanemi Warriors more misery, as they remain rock bottom of the Group A log, with 9 points – 5 points from safety.
On the other hand, Insurance wrapped up their first win in the second stanza, to take their points tally to 31, from 15 matches – 7 points clear of second placed Enyimba of Aba, who have played one match less.
