The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), has condemned the killing of a 70-year-old man, Ihwakar Kumekor Dam in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
Director-General of NSCC, Dr Emem Omokaro in a statement describes the killing as abominable and the height of Human Rights Violation that must be checked and the culprits brought to book.
Dr Omokaro commended the police for swinging into action with the suspects already apprehended and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related Matters (NAPTIP), for steps already taken to bring the culprits to book.
The DG assures older persons and Nigerians that NSCC will stop at nothing in defending their rights and improving their quality of life within its mandate.
It states that the National Senior Citizens Centre Anti Elder Abuse Community Response Mechanism is working in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, the Legal Aids Council of Nigeria, and NAPTIP to stem abuse and violence against older persons and provide access to justice.
The statement appeals to the public to utilise the toll-free lines in reporting acts of abuse on citizens, especially the older persons.
