The National Association of Nigerian Students in Sudan says all students stranded in Sudan’s war-torn capital, Khartoum, have been evacuated.
The associations public relations officer, Amal Pantami, confirmed the evacuations on Sunday in a statement.
The statement read: “This is to inform the general public that all the remaining Nigerian students have been evacuated from Khartoum Sunday 30th April, 2023.
“There were a total of 26 buses with each bus carrying about 50 people.
“We continue to ask for everyone’s prayers and we hope all the students are able to reach Nigeria safely. We’re ever grateful for your continuous support and prayers.”
More than 500 people have so far been killed and tens of thousands of people have fled their homes since the conflict began on April 15.
Nigeria’s Federal Government on Sunday said it had expensed $1.2 million on bus fares to evacuate stranded Nigerians to Egyptian borders for onward airlifting.
