The Federal Government has closed the ECOWAS stabilization funds in the North East and North West of Nigeria and the delivery of assistance to the population affected by the 2020 flood in member states.
The permanent secretary of the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, at the close-out meeting, said the projects that were domiciled in the ministry was implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Nigeria Red Cross Society.
Dr Sani-Gwarzo said 13,000 flood victims from 16 states benefited from the flood project, while the Stabilization fund projects were also implemented in six local government areas with 27,432 beneficiaries.
In a remark, the minister Counsellor Permanent Mission of Nigeria to ECOWAS, Muhammad Sulaiman, Director of humanitarian and social affairs Dr Sintiki Augbe representing the President ECOWAS Commission and Deputy Rep World Food Programme, Guy Adoua, called for the sustenance and enhancement of the programme.
The event had presentations and testimonies on the impact of the stabilization funds in the North-east and northwest of Nigeria and the delivery of assistance to the population. affected by the 2020 flood.
