Covid-19 no longer global health emergency-WHO

The World Health Organization, WHO, has declared that Covid-19 no longer represents a “global health emergency”.

The Director General, WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus who state this on Friday, also warned that the virus still remained a significant threat.

He said the declaration followed the recommendation by the Emergency Committee.

”Lifting the emergency declaration is a sign of the progress the world has made in these areas, but COVID is here to stay, even if it no longer represents an emergency”, he said.

Reports say this represents a major step towards ending the pandemic which started in January 2020.

According to WHO, total number of confirmed cases Globally, as at 3 May 2023, was 765,222,932, including 6,921,614 deaths.

Also, 13,344,670,055 doses of vaccine have been administered as of 30 April 2023.
