The Jigawa State Governor-elect, Mallam Umar Namadi has declared war against poverty as one of his top priorities when assumed office May 29th, 2023.
He stated this to newsmen shortly after receiving a report from the sub-committee of the State Government transition committee.
He explained that the incumbent government has spent billions of Naira on empowerment, jobs creation and other tools for poverty eradication which reduce the prevailing rate of poverty in the state.
Mallam Namadi further explained that as a result of series of interventions from federal and state government as well as other partners, the level of poverty in the state has reduced and the purchasing power of people has also improved.
The Governor-elect also disputed the reports from National Data Health Survey which categorized Jigawa State among the top poverty-stricken state in Nigeria, described it as far from the reality.
The Governor-elect who is also the incumbent State Deputy Governor reiterated his commitment to continuing with the good policies and programs started by Governor Badaru led administration for social and economic development of the state.
