Elon Musk has announced plans to remove Twitter accounts left dormant for “several years”.

Musk, who took over the social-media platform in October 2022, said it was important to free up abandoned handles.

People have criticised the move, as many fear the losing access to accounts of relatives who had died.

BBC reports that some have called for a way to request accounts to be memorialised, especially those with historical value, such as those from victims of tragedies.
