Thundercloud activities with possible heavy rainfall are expected in some Northeastern States in coming days.

In a statement on Thursday, The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, said thunderstorm cells are currently being observed over northern parts of the country including, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states.

The trend is expected to propagate West and East to give thunderstorm to states like Plateau, FCT, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Adamama, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano and Katsina in the next 2-6 hours.

NiMet further reminded people in such areas, that thunderstorms, and strong winds are likely to precede the rains and as such, trees, electric poles, unsecured objects and weak buildings may be felled.

Consequently, the statement advised the public to be cautious and stay in-door especially during heavy rainfall to avoid being struck by lightning.

It also urged Airline operators to avail themselves of weather reports periodically for effective planning in their operations.

According to the NiMet, the moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash flood.

It therefore advised the public to take necessary caution, and Disaster risk managers to be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property during the rainy season.
