Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has this week announced the reinstatement of about 1,288 public school teachers that were sacked after a competency test in June of last year.
In response, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT),Kaduna State chapter, commended the state government for “doing the needful”.
The move will help “bridge the gap” in the teacher-pupil ratio being experienced in the state’s public primary school system, the Union said.
The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) initially dismissed some 2,357 primary school teachers for reportedly failing the competency test that was done in June of 2022.
About 2,192 teachers were laid-off for failing to sit for the test, while 165 others lost their jobs due to “poor performance”.
