Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi scored the equalizer against Chelsea, being his fourth goal in two matches, to give struggling Nottingham Forest the hope of beating the drop.
Awoniyi’s first goal came in the 13th minute after Chelsea’s Senegal international, Mendy, misjudged a cross before the quarter hour mark. But the Blues came back in the second half and scored two quick goals courtesy of Raheem Sterling.
Again, the Nigerian forward was at the right place to punish Chelsea for their sloppy defending as he made it 2-2 with the Blues doing all they could to grab all three points.
After the final whistle, Awoniyi said: “The most important thing was to get the goals and that brought us into the game. Many times, we sat off but that’s the game plan and that’s what we did. It helped us as a team and individually to earn the draw today.
“Obviously, when they score those two quick goals, you feel bad but that is football and you just have to believe in yourself and your team-mates.
“I think for every striker, you always want to score every game. As a striker, you have to bring your team-mates in.”
Meanwhile, Southampton have been relegated after Fulham beat the Saints 2-0 to end their 11-year stay in the Premier League.
