US imposes visa restrictions on Nigerians ‘undermining democracy’

The US has imposed visa restrictions on some Nigerians for undermining the nation’s democratic process during the 2023 general election.

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken confirmed this on his official twitter handle on Monday.

We have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections. We remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and rule of law.

However, Mr Blinken did not mention any names but stressed that the administration of President Joe Biden is committed to advancing democracy in Nigeria and around the world.

He said the visa restrictions are specific to certain individuals.
