Five arrested over killings in Plateau

Five persons have been apprehended by a Special Task Force, “Operation Safe Haven,” following a series of attacks on several villages in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Over 100 people were killed in the two days overnight attacks and buildings were razed, including foodstuffs and farm inputs, according to Solomon Maren, a member of the house of representatives from Mangu/Bokkos federal constituency.

In a statement, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, said a significant arsenal, including 47 rifles, a revolver, and numerous cartridges, was seized during the arrests.

He said authorities deployed additional security personnel in the area as a proactive measure to prevent any potential resurgence of violence and guarantee the protection of lives and properties.

An officer attached to Sector Eight of the Special Task Force sustained gunshot wounds and was receiving the necessary medical attention, the PPRO said.

The attackers managed to overrun and vandalise a Hilux van belonging to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, he added/
