Kogi to establish new University

The Kogi State Government has approved the establishment of another State University to be sited in Okunland, Kogi West Senatorial District.

The proposed institution would be Kogi’s third state-owned University.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who announced the decision in a statement, explained that Governor Yahaya Bello had directed the transmission of the necessary legislative instruments to the Kogi State House of Assembly to ensure the passage of the Bill establishing the University.

Mr Fanwo said the proposed University in Okunland, which was approved by the state government through its Executive Council, would address the gap in the educational infrastructure as it relates to higher education in the area.

The commissioner stressed that the government would continue to ensure equity, fairness and justice in governance in order that all parts of the state enjoy the dividends of democracy.
