The Federal Government has engaged 7500 Independent Monitors to supervise its National Social Investment programmes, NSIPs across the 36 states of the federation.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster, Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq stated this in Abuja at the commencement of a workshop for the Independent monitors.

She stressed that to ensure a successful implementation and maximise impact of the NSIP, the Ministry developed a robust Monitoring and Evaluation system at the three levels of government.

“At the Local Government level, we have enrolled the services of 7500 Independent Monitors to carry out programme monitoring in 36 states and the FCT. The Independent Monitors collect and submit routine data from 774 Local Government Areas. “

She further explained that at the state level, the Ministry partnered with International Non-governmental Organizations to serve as Third-Party Monitors for the NSIP, while the third layer of monitoring was provided at the Federal level by the Ministry through routine monitoring and supervision visits on a quarterly basis.

The Team Lead of the programme and Special Assistant to the President on Monitoring and Evaluation, Fatiya Askederin and the Coordinator of the NSIPS Programme, Dr Umar Bindir commended the monitors for their commitment and dedication to the programme.
