Osinbajo proposes Commission for Health Institutions

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presenting the HealthCare Reform Committee Report to President Buhari

The National Health Reform Committee has proposed healthcare guarantees for Nigerians registered on the National Social Register.

The Chairman of the committee and Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo read out the recommendations of the committee in Abuja before submitting the document to President Buhari.

He said the report had recommended that the share of total health expenditure flowing through health insurance schemes must be more than 10 percent.

“We have proposed a number of institutional changes, including the establishment of the National Territory Health Institutions Commission, whose functions will be similar to the National Universities Commission, and the National Quality and Healthcare Assurance Commission.

The report further recommends that vaccine manufacturing should be seen as a national health security imperative rather than purely as a commodity production.

Vice President Osinbajo urged the incoming administration to take responsibility of concretising the roadmap laid by this administration to attain universal healthcare.
