Reps to probe use of ecological funds by NEMA

The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the utilization of ecological funds received by the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA.

This was sequel to a motion at plenary by a member from Lagos state, Mr Jimoh Olajide.

Leading the debate, the lawmaker queried the utilization of the special intervention fund for the cushioning of natural as well as security-based calamities by the agency.

Mr Olajide stated that not much success has been achieved in this regard over the years and asked the House to mandate the House Committee on Disaster Preparedness to investigate the matter and report back to the House for more legislative action.

A member from Jigawa state Abubakar Yalleman, in speaking against the motion said that more research should have been done before moving the motion.

This according to him is because if due research was done, the House would see that NEMA has been up and doing and impacting affected communities nationwide.

The motion was voted on and adopted.
