Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele is now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for some investigative reasons.
The DSS made the confirmation in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya hours after President Bola Tinubu suspended the Governor of Nigeria’s Apex bank.
According to a statement by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, signed by the Director, Information, Willie Bassey, the suspension of the Governor of the Apex bank was a sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
Mr Godwin Emefiele served as Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc since 2001. Before commencing his banking career, he has lectured Finance and Insurance at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt, respectively.
Mr Godwin Emefiele had served as the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc since June 2014.
He has been a Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria since June 2014 until Friday 9 June 2023, when President Bola Tinubu suspended him as the Central Bank Governor with immediate effect.
