NAWOJ advocates female Deputy Speaker

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) wants President Bola Tinubu and members of the 10th National Assembly to consider female legislator for the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

A statement signed by the National President of NAWOJ, Mrs Ladi Bala says lack of women inclusion in governance and political leadership over the years remained a weak link in the core values of democracy which does not reflects the Nigerian democratic dream.

Mrs Bala urged the legislators to promote gender friendliness and balance in 10th National Assembly, reflecting only 17 women representation out of 469 members of both chambers.

The Association maintained that the underrepresentation of women at the National Assembly is a setback that requires deliberate action.

She Urges the both chambers to consider a female legislator for Deputy Speaker to promote inclusion.
