At least. 41 peoplet have died in a riot at a women’s prison in Honduras, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Wednesday .
The violence which occurred on Tuesday left 26 of the victims burnt to death.
Others were stabbed, macheted, or shot to death with weapons that were smuggled into the prison.
Honduran President Xiomara Castro said the riot was planned by the ‘maras’, street gang members with the knowledge of the security authorities.
Castro promised to take drastic actions.
