AFN to select Nigeria’s team for 2023 World championships

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) have released its schedule for the national trials, ahead of the upcoming 2023 World Athletics Championships, in Budapest.

A circular to this effect dated June 21st, by the Secretary General of the Federation, Rita Moshindi, says the trials will hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin from July 6th, 2023.

All eligible track and field Athletes, domestic and foreign are expected by the AFN to arrive on Wednesday, July 5th, while departure is slated for Sunday, July 9th, 2023.

According to the AFN scribe, the trials in Benin is meant to give home and foreign-based athletes, equal opportunity to meet the minimum qualifying standards, set by World Athletics, for the World Championship, in Budapest, Hungary.

While adding that the trials will be conducted strictly in line with laid-down regulations of World Athletics; but the AFN won’t bear the cost of participating athletes; which has been pushed to states and clubs the athletes would be representing.

The World Championships is billed to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19th to 27th, 2023.
