Stakeholders on human rights activities have converged on Abuja to deliberate on the Universal Periodic Review Report to be submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

At the validation meeting at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Headquarters in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Chief Tony Ojukwu said the meeting was to allow stakeholders contribute meaningfully to the report before it is submitted.

Chief Ojukwu represented by the Director Civil and Political Rights, Mr Abdulrahman Yakubu, explained that the report examined the plights of the IDPs, older persons and other vulnerable groups in the last four years.

He emphasized that the review meeting will provide opportunity for stakeholders to take a look at critical issues of human rights in Nigeria.

The Commission therefore called on stakeholders to always support efforts aimed at protecting and promoting human rights in Nigeria.
