Kano Hisbah says furniture, food items and clothing materials, have been procured for 1,800 intending couples under its mass wedding scheme.

The Commander General Kano state Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, while inspecting the items for the mass wedding said the state government had set aside over N800 million to purchase furniture, clothing materials, food items, dowry among others.

He explained that each bride would receive a set of bed, with mattress and pillows, as well as N20,000 to start up a business.

Sheikh Aminu pointed out that, philanthropists and other individuals have pledged to contribute their quota, to ensure the success of the mass wedding and appealed for support from other residents.

He further explained that the mass wedding was a way to curtail societal vices and poverty bedeviling the state, as many marriages were postponed, due to the inability of parents to sponsor the wedding.

Sheikh Aminu said criteria has been set for the selection of the beneficiaries, adding that anyone found guilty of divorcing his wife after the marriage, will pay for the items received from the state government.
