Voter apathy, late arrival of materials mar Edo LG polls

On Saturday, voting in the Edo State local government elections did not begin as scheduled by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).

Though the polls were scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m.

Protest, voter apathy and late arrival of materials were some of the challenges that marred Saturday’s council election polls in Edo State.

Election Observers say that there was delayed at some voting stations, including those in Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, and Egor local government areas (LGAs).

Voters who arrived early at the various polling stations were spotted waiting patiently for the polls to open.

At Emokpai Primary School, where Governor Godwin Obaseki voted at about 2pm, voters did not turn up in large number as most only waited to see the governor cast his vote.
