Nigerian footballers Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have been nominated for the prestigious 2023 Ballon d’Or awards.
The Napoli striker is the first Nigerian to be nominated for the prize in 24 years. Kanu Nwankwo was the last to earn that feat.
Oshola who plays for Barcelona in Spain was nominated for the women’s category.
Last year, the Barcelona striker was nominated for the 2022 Women’s Ballon d’Or but was won by her her teammate Alexia Putellas.
Karim Benzema received 356 more votes than Sadio Mane to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or, which was regarded as the second-largest victory in the award’s history.
The awards ceremony is slated to take place in Paris October 30th 2023.
