Yauri local government council chairman, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, said live jackets have been provided to avert the reoccurrence of such incidents.
Forty people are missing following a boat accident that occurred along the River Niger in the Yauri local government area of Kebbi State.
Confirming the incident to Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi, Yauri local government council Chairman Alhaji Bala Mohammed said the boat, which was carrying 50 people and luggage, was coming from Kasabo village in Agura local government area of Niger State to Yauri in Kebbi State.
According to him, the boat capsized as a result of waves in the river, and only 10 people were rescued while the remaining 40 and the boat were still under the river.
The chairman said rescue workers are still searching for the boat and the people
